AMD Has Open-Source Driver For HD 8000 Series

While AMD has yet to officially introduce their Radeon HD 8000 series, published today was the initial open-source Linux graphics driver support for handling the Radeon HD 8800 "Oland" graphics cards.

AMD's been planning for a second quarter release of the Radeon HD 8000 "Sea Islands" GPUs while the first to arrive hardware will be the HD 8800 "Oland" graphics processors. This hardware that succeeds the Radeon HD 7000 series isn't as radically different as going from the HD 6000 to HD 7000 series, which yielded a better turnaround time with the initial HD 8000 series support.

HP unveils Pavilion laptops with Intel Ivy Bridge chipset
Range of Pavilion models to include Core i7-3610QM chipset, 8GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.

HP has unveiled a range of Pavilion laptops that will be powered by Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge chipset.

The Pavilion laptops will range from 14ins to 17.3ins in size and come with high-end specifications to cater to the needs of power users.

The DV4-5000 is the smallest in the range and is set to feature a 14in HD BrightView LED-backlit display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. HP will use the Intel Core i7-3610QM processor that runs at 2.3GHz, and the laptop is set to support up to 8GB of RAM, which is user upgradeable.

HP Briefly Lists AMD Trinity, Intel Ivy Bridge Notebooks

HP Thailand apparently leaked some information about upcoming notebooks that can be purchased with Intel Ivy Bridge and AMD Trinity processors.

ccording to a report by heise.de, HP will be offering Trinity in its Pavilion g4 series, while Ivy Bridge will be available for the Pavilion dv4-5000, dv6-7000 and dv7-7000. HP has since removed the information from its website.

Heise reports that Trinity APUs will be released with a 4000-series sequence number, according to the data sheet. For example the g4 will be integrating an A6-4400M processor. The Intel Ivy Bridge flagship notebook will be the dv7-7000 with a 17-inch screen and the 2.6 GHz i7-3720QM processor, which has not been listed in Intel data sheets yet. the

New HP Notebooks: Envy Updates, Posher Pavilions, AMD (Almost) Everywhere

HP announced scads of new notebooks today. I’m not going to try and cover every detail on every model. But here are a few notes on items I found interesting. (I was briefed by the company and saw the new systems in person.

MUSE. For several years, HP has been into industrial design that strives to be eye-catching rather than typical-PC bland and generic–especially laptops with unusual textures, finishes, and materials. This HP look has spread to most of the new models, and the company has come up with an acronym to describe it and other design philosophies: MUSE, which stands for Materials, Usability, Sensory Appeal, and Experience. I have to admit that I don’t immediately gravitate to some of the techniques the company is using, like engraving cases with intricate patterns. But I give ‘em credit for being experimental, avoiding beige-box syndrome, and attempting to come with a design aesthetic that’s recognizably HP.

Sony Announces PS3 Error Code 800105F Fixing Within the Day -  This is the latest news about the PS3 Error code 8001050F and the Sony’s announcement of fixing within the day.

Owners of the original model PS3 woke up to a bit of an annoyance this morning with widespread reports that the original 60GB PS3s are now unable to connect to the Playstation Network (PSN).

The on-screen message reads “An error has occured. You have been signed out of the Playstation Network. (8001050F)”, and seemingly prevents any of the consoles from getting online. Some users have been reporting that their offline gaming has been affected as well.
